To give you the scenario, when I play I start at the 1955 campaign, select a crappy jet like the F-94 and play using Mercenary settings so that weapons and planes cost cash, then I go through the various campaigns in chronological order, developing my fighter squadron along the way. If the stylized experience of being a fighter pilot in a campaign is more your bag, SF2 can scratch that itch quite handily. If the buttons and knobs are the most important thing about a module, then SF2 is going to be woefully inadequate to fulfill your desires. It's not for everyone, and if you're the sort who craves complexity, you're really not going to find it here. It was originally made, and does best at, mid cold war era aircraft shortly before the introduction of smart weapons.
